CMA LAW: The Capital Markets Authority Announces Filing a Report with the Prosecutor General Regarding the Occurrence of a Crime

The Capital Markets Authority announces filing a report with the Prosecutor General on 4/9/2024 regarding the occurrence of the crime stipulated under Article No. (125) of Law No. 7 of 2010 Regarding the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating Securities Activities and its amendments, and Article (209) of Law No. 16 of 1960 promulgating the Penal Code , and Items (5),(6), and (8) of Article (21) of Law No. 3 of 2006 Regarding Press and Publications, and as penalized by Article (6) of Law No. 63 of 2015 Regarding Combating Cyber Crimes, and Article (18) of Law No. 8 of 2016 Regarding the Regulation of Electronic Media.
The three defendants published through their personal accounts on social media platforms (Instagram) and “X” (formerly Twitter) a comment containing a false allegations and insulting remarks about the CMA. They claimed that the CMA had referred an employee to the Public Prosecution for leaking confidential information and publishing it on social media, contrary to the CMA’s announcement dated 22/08/2024 on its website.
