Title: The Capital Markets Authority Concludes the First Phase of its Awareness Program for the Fourth Quarter of the Year 2015
Kuwait, October 27, 2015 – The Capital Markets Authority has concluded today the events of the first phase of its awareness program for the fourth quarter of the year 2015. The fifth and last workshop for this quarter was held in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at Kuwait Stock Exchange at 12:30. The title of today's workshop was "Resolution No. 48 of 2015 regarding Issuance of Corporate Governance Regulations". The workshop tackled many aspects such as the following:
⦁ Global changes and the emergence of the Governance concept.
⦁ Corporate Governance role, importance and objectives.
⦁ Authority's role in the field of Governance.
⦁ Approach and scope of Governance Regulations application.
⦁ Principles and requirements of Governance Regulations.
The workshop witnessed the participation of the persons concerned with securities activities issues. The CMA was represented by Mr. Mubarak Alrefaei – Director of Corporate Finance and Governance Department, Mrs. Ibtihal Alshimali – Specialist, Mr. Ahmad Marafi – Director of Awareness Office, and Mr. Othman Alneghaimash – Representative of the Legal Affairs Department.
It is worth mentioning that the awareness program of the last quarter of the year 2015 included two main phases: the first one comprised of five workshops that took place between the end of last September and throughout October. The second phase was dedicated to awareness events that tackled the amendments of the Executive Bylaws of Law No. 7 of 2010, which is amended pursuant to Law No. 22 of 2015. It is anticipated that the Bylaws will implemented within the coming November and December. More relevant details will be announced soon.
Clarification to EditorsThe Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies execution of Corporate Governance Regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
