Kuwait, 21st October 2014 – As part of the CMA awareness workshop program in the last quarter of this year, the CMA has held its second workshop on Tuesday 21/10/2014 at Kuwait Stock Exchange building, which lasted for an hour and a half. It tackled the issue of the unsound practices of trading, in particular the issue of "insider information". The speakers discussed important topics related to the mechanisms of handling insider information and their controls through various aspects, such as the following:
- Insider Information Definition
- Insider Definition
- Insider Information Exploitation
- Example cases of Insider Information Exploitation
- Incriminating the Exploitation of the insider Information
The workshop was attended by those who are concerned with the general issues of securities' activities. The CMA was represented by the Awareness Department Director, the Supervision Department Director, and a representative from the Legal Affairs Sector.
The CMA hopes that the workshop has shed light on all aspects concerning the insider information and its controls. It would like to express its gratitude to the participants, and it looks forward to future cooperation. It would also like to note that any opinions and suggestions regarding the different CMA activities are welcomed, in particular the awareness-related matters.
Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
