CMA LAW: The 11th Meeting of the GCC Heads of the Capital Markets Authorities' Committee

Kuwait, 18th September 2014 – Kuwait Capital Markets Authority hosts today the 11th Meeting of the GCC Heads of Capital Markets Authorities' Committee. The meeting will be chaired by Dr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf – Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority and Executive Manager, with the participation of the heads of the member states' authorities and the GCC Secretariat General.
The meeting will start with a speech delivered by Dr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, and will be followed by reviewing the minutes of the meetings of the  Listing, Disclosure, and Governance work teams, and the work team of the Initial Public Offerings and Subscriptions in the GCC capital markets. Light will be shed on the Memorandum of Understanding adopted by the securities' regulatory entities, and the Secretariat General Memorandum regarding the reference for studying the Committees' strategy and the mechanisms of achieving integration among the GCC capital markets. The Committee will discuss the idea of holding an annual meeting which shall include the components of the GCC capital markets. In addition, the 5th meeting's agenda of the Ministerial Committee of board of directors heads of GCC capital markets, and the latest related updates and developments, as well as the activation of the training and studies team in the GCC capital markets' regulatory authorities will be reviewed.
The meeting will be chaired by Mr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf – Chairman of Kuwait Capital Markets Authority and Executive Manager, and the participants consist of UAE delegation headed by H.E. Abdullah Al Turaifi - CEO of Securities and Commodities Authority, Bahrain delegation headed by H.E. Ali Salman Thamer - Director, Capital Markets Supervision Directorate of Central Bank of Bahrain, Kigdom of Saudi Arabia delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Najem Bin Abdullah Al-Zaid – member of the CMA, Sultanate of Oman delegation headed by H.E. Abdullah bin Salim Al Salmi – Executive President of the CMA, Qatar delegation headed by H.E. Nasser Ahmed Abdulrahman al-Shaibi as QFMA Chief Executive Officer, and Kuwait delegation headed by H.E Mishaal M. Al-Usaimi - Vice Chairman of the CMA, in addition to the GCC Secretariat General which is represented by H.E. Abdullah bin Juma Al Shibli –  Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs. It is worth noting that Kuwait hosted the 10th meeting of the GCC Heads of Capital Markets Authorities' Committee last May. It is heading the 34th GCC Supreme Council Summit.


Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
