CMA LAW: Capital Markets Authority's Awareness Publications

Kuwait, 5th May 2014 - As part of the CMA's awareness efforts, it has issued a number of awareness publications during the second half of the last month of April. These publications consisted of three awareness pamphlets which tackled different issues that might be of concern to investors and the licensed persons. The first one included an introduction about the CMA, its role, and the tasks of its different sectors. The second pamphlet was about regulating securities as per the related legislative and supervisory regulations, whereas the third pamphlet emphasized the importance of activating the role of shareholders in the companies’ General Assemblies. It also explained the concept of General Assemblies, their types, the mechanisms and requirements for holding each of them.

The Authority aimed through its awareness approach to enhance its role in increasing the investment and financial awareness among different classes of investors in order to create an appropriate and well informed investment environment. Based on the aforementioned information, the CMA has provided many entities and scientific and economical institutions of these publications, such as the Kuwait Stock Exchange, Kuwait Clearing Agency, the brokerage firms, Kuwait Investment Authority, Union of Investment Companies, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and other similar entities.

The CMA was keen to keep its pamphlets brief and simple, while achieving the required awareness benefits.

To conclude, the CMA hopes that these publications will achieve the sought-after awareness goals, especially that raising the public’s awareness of securities’ activity is the second main objective of the CAM, as mentioned it its Law of establishment.
