CMA LAW: The Capital Markets Authority Holds its Second Awareness Workshop for the 2nd Quarter of 2015

Kuwait, April 21, 2015 – The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has held a second awareness workshop on Tuesday 21/4/2015 in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at Kuwait Stock Exchange at 12:30 p.m. The workshop was titled "Procedures of Nomination Mechanism for Positions and Registration of Registered Positions". This workshop, which is part of the Awareness Workshops Program of the second quarter of 2015, discussed the two following aspects:
- Nomination Mechanism of board of directors
- Registration Mechanism of the registered positions
The speakers elaborated when discussing the nomination mechanism of board of directors, starting from the nomination announcement for the membership and ending with marking the CMA's register. They also reviewed the specified registered positions and their registration mechanism.
Additionally, other related issues were discussed such as the procedures of requesting to amend the registered data of the licensed person. At the end, participants' inquiries were answered.
The workshop was given by Mr. Zeyad Al-Fulaij – Director of Licensing & Registration Department, Mr. Khalid Al-Mufarrej – Manager of Registration Section, Mr. Ahmad Al-Nasser - Representative from the Awareness Office, and Mr. Othman Alneghaimash – Representative from the Legal Affairs Sector.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies execution of Corporate Governance Principles, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims to provide awareness programmes related to securities activities.
