CMA LAW: The Capital Markets Authority Concludesits Awareness Workshops Program for the First Quarter of 2015

Kuwait, 5th April 2015 – The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has concluded on Tuesday 31/4/2015 its awareness workshops program for the first quarter of 2015. The program included ten awareness workshops held in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at Kuwait Stock Exchange, which took place on Tuesdays at 12:30 PM.
The program covered different issues related to CMA activities. They were as follows:
Regulations and Procedures of Mergers
Rules of Issuing Preferred Shares
Permitted Trading Proportion for the Controller of a Company Listed in the Securities Exchange
Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the CMA
Regulating the Dealings in Securities of Board of Directors Members, Executive Staff Members, and Other Insiders in Shareholding Companies, and the Method of Disclosure
Cancelation of the licensed person's license and crossing out its name from the CMA's registers upon the its request
Jurisdictions of the Litigations and Arbitration Department
Controls for Practice of External Sharia Review & Audit Profession
Controls of Promotional and Marketing Announcements of Investment Funds
Field Inspection on Investment Companies
Invitations to attend the mentioned workshops, as the ones of 2014, were public. Many concerned persons took part in such workshops and participated in discussions. During the workshops, questions were answered and many points were clarified. Participants' recommendations and remarks were also taken into consideration.
Additionally, the CMA has arranged a lecture at the Gulf University for Science and Technology titled "CMA & Securities' Activities Regulation". It has also participated in a seminar at the Ministry of Education titled "Students' Skills of Saving and Investment".
It is worth mentioning that the activities of this program come in line with the CMA's responsibility towards raising awareness regarding its rules, regulations, and decisions. It also seeks to communicate with all parties concerned with securities' activities.

Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.

Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
