Title: Press Release: The Capital Markets Academy Signs Memorandum of Understanding with American International University – Kuwait
Kuwait, May 12, 2024 – The Capital Markets Academy signed memorandum of understanding with the American International University in Kuwait on the morning of Sunday May 12, 2024. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Ahmad Al-Melhem – Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority’s (CMA) Board of Commissioners, the Managing Director and members of the Board of Trustees of the Capital Markets Academy. The MoU was signed by Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Bader, the General Manager of the Academy, and Mr. Nael Al-Awadhi, a member of Board of Trustees at the American International University, representing the aforementioned university.
In its pursuit of actively contributing to raising the competency of market participants in the capital markets of the State of Kuwait, the CMA seeks to upgrade its Academy to the ranks of the advanced financial academies through several directions, such as enhancing cooperation in the training and research aspects to qualify and upgrade the efficiency of the personnel working in the financial sector through programs specialized in developing the investment financial skills, in addition to reliance on the latest research and the use of the best international methods used in equivalent academies.
It should be noted that the memorandum of understanding between the two parties is part of their desire to set a framework for mutual cooperation to enhance public awareness of securities activities and of the benefits, risks and obligations arising from investments in this activity and encourage their development, in addition to serving the development directions of the Country derived from a high vision of the transfer into a leading regional financial center of a favorable investment environment that owns the required components. It also contributes to achieve the objectives of CMA’s project of enhancing financial inclusion and investment awareness at various society segments, which includes the university education sector and the subsequent need for mutual cooperation and consultation, especially with the mentioned University’s proven experience in this framework through its training center of strategic partnerships with world-ranking entities distributed between universities and “leading” institutions in the training field. This will certainly contribute to upgrade the Academy’s training programs to the ranks of the international training institutions.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that this MoU marks the beginning of several agreements the Academy intends to sign with relevant institutions or peer organizations.

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Kuwait was established pursuant to Law No. 7 of 2010 Regarding the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating Securities Activities, and its amendments, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Under this Law, the CMA regulates and supervises securities activities, ensures transparency, fairness, efficiency, and observes listed companies’ implementation of Corporate Governance regulations. The CMA also protects investors from unfair practices and violations of the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
